![]() ![]() In another, it’s a dark comedy, with the squad’s resident klutz dropping a grenade at his own feet, somehow surviving, then accidentally headshotting the medic who is running to help him. In another, it’s a nighttime commando mission in which enemy soldiers are quietly dispatched with throwing knives and machetes. In one game, the battle for a mining town is a bitter, World War II style streetfight. Each encounter with Jagged Alliance 2 is like a snowflake. Remember I told you about the Russian sniper rifle I got…?” And then I’d get a blow-by-blow reenactment of a desperate, heroic battle at a dictator’s SAM site. I’d get phone calls: “Rob Rob Rob! You would not believe what just happened j ag g ed alliance 2 in my game. ![]() Fans like me loaned copies to their friends and watched as they fell down the same rabbit hole. But like a lot of great works, Jagged Alliance 2 hangs in there while so many other games fade away. Jagged Alliance 2 blotted out everything else for the next few months, and I became like a crazy man, telling my friends at school about this amazing game that nobody had ever heard of. It remains perhaps the best bargain bin purchase of my life. I grabbed Jagged Alliance 2 for $10, based on a half-remembered review in Computer Gaming World and a gripping description of room-toroom fighting in a third-world hospital. I was there to buy something else, something I can’t even remember today. It was a checkout line impulse purchase at Electronics Boutique, found in a battered, unloved box lying with the rest of the commercial refuse of the bargain bin. I would suggest starting with a team which includes a skilled medic and at least one "sniper" character (That is, someone selected for a high marksmanship.) You might not get a rifle this way, but an SMG is pretty good too. If you spend all your cash on one character, you can't include them. ![]() They might not be great in combat, but will help your team get back to full health quickly. I mean, Fox and Spider are an inexpensive hires and very good medics. Lynx? I think that hiring one merc at the start is probably a mistake when you're starting out, because it means only one person shooting, and even if they're great, if any of you get hurt, you'll take longer to recover.Īnd that expensive merc means no other skills. I don't know about your experience, but being prone DOES give a bonus to attack and a bonus to defense which exceed crouching. I have tried laying prone for gunfights, but it only seems to make them blind and not hit anything, in stark contrast to enemy soldiers, who become untouchable elite snipers when prone. Seroster, my mercs walk around while crouching mostly. I'm playing 1.10, Gold edition, but I can't find that feature Afterburner talks about. I really can't see any reason to hire any other merc first, which probably shows I'm getting something wrong, as nobody seems to have him as a first choice. I chose Lynx because he's affordable, has good attributes and he carries a rifle. Who is that Dimitri guy? I dislike Ira because she's not that good as a doctor and Lynx can do the same things AND hit the broad side of a barn. Right now my team consists of my custom merc, Lynx and Ira. How do you make your mercenary a night ops specialist? Is it better to make them be a marskman or a support kind of guy? ![]() It seems I did the wrong thing, but then again I have only taken control of Drassen and the first SAM site so maybe it's not too late to restart it again. Well, I just restarted the game since I wasn't too happy with some of my initial decisions. ![]()
